In our regular series, #WomenFixingUganda ⏤ women leaders working and contributing to make Uganda a better place, today we focus on Dr. Olive Sabiiti, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Cavendish University Uganda (CUU).
Dr. Sabiiti is a distinguished senior lecturer, a legal scholar, with more than 20 years of demonstrated experience in the higher education industry.
She is also an advocate of the High Court of Uganda
Prior to being appointed the Ag. Vice Chancellor, she held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor- Academic Affairs, a role she has played since April 2018. Before that, she was the Dean, the Faculty of Law since 2016.
In addition to her role at Cavendish University Uganda, Dr. Sabiiti is a Panel Advisor for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission Alumni Advisory Panel (2023-2025) and a Board Member for the Research and Education Network of Uganda (2023-2025).
Additionally, between 2021-2022, she led the Inclusive Education Project of the Chevening Alumni Association of Uganda.
As a Commonwealth Scholar, Dr. Olive Sabiiti earned her PhD degree in law from the University of Manchester, UK. As a British Chevening Scholar, she earned her LLM (Master of Laws in International Business Law) degree with merit from the University of Manchester, UK. She also holds a post-graduate diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre, Uganda, and a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) with Honours from Makerere University.
Before joining Cavendish University Uganda, Dr. Olive Sabiiti taught Law and Finance in Emerging Markets, Land Transactions, Business and Commercial laws at the University of Manchester, Makerere University, Uganda Christian University, Mukono, and Uganda Management Institute (UMI).
She is one of the brains that have contributed to shaping CUU as one of the leading private universities in Uganda.
The University is renowned for offering market-relevant and accredited academic programmes hosted in four faculties⏤ Law, Science & Technology, Business & Management, and Socio-economic Sciences. CUU also has a School of Postgraduate Studies & Research.
It is also renowned for using technology-led delivery methods that support blended learning, projects, case studies, distance learning, and other functional and active learning forms.
The University’s large student population hails from over 47 countries. To date, more than 10,000 students have graduated from CUU in many different disciplines at certificate, diploma, bachelor`s, and master`s levels since its inception.
Away from academia, for close to a decade, Dr. Olive Sabiiti served as the Speaker of the Mpigi District Council, Chair of the Association of all District Council Speakers in the Country and Chair of the Conflict Resolution Committee of the Uganda Local Governments Association (ULGA).
As an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda, she has practised law for more than 15 years. She is a member of the Uganda Law Society, East Africa Law Society, and the Society for Institutional and Organisational Economics. She represents Cavendish University Uganda at the International Association of Law Schools.
