Peter Ochen, new MTN’s Mobile Money General Manager

Peter Ochen, the experienced finance manager, expert in digital finance, working capital, debt management, forex, funding and investment management is Uganda’s telecommunication giant – MTN’s Mobile Money General Manager.

He has been at the company for about 15 years, 10 of which he was the Senior Manager Treasury and MFS right from December 2011 to September 2022.

In this role, Ochen was tasked on refinancing arrangement and servicing, working capital management, currency and interest rate exposure management, credit, counter party arrangements and bank guarantee management and investments management.

Other responsibilities included; dividend management, Mobile Money Finance management, management of banking relationships, dealer finance management, reporting and cash flow planning.

He was also the company’s Senior Accountant Banking Operations from May 2011 – December 2011, where he was among others responsible for;

• Ensuring daily collections are received and safely recorded in the financial system

• Ensuring collections are banked

• Reconciliation between receipts and debtors or stock balances

• Ensuring all customers receipt are correctly posted

• Ensuring all collections banked intact and accurately entered in the financial system, and

• Supervision of the collection team

Between April 2009 and May 2011, Ochen was company’s Supervisor Credit Vetting.

Here he was responsible for ensuring that all clients’ payments are applied on the right invoices, manage the outstanding debt owed to acceptable company levels, maintenance of strict policies and procedures regarding suspension and reactivation of non-paying subscribers, follow up and ensure that all issues raised by the clients are solved in a timely manner, among others.

He joined the company as an Assistant Credit Controller in June 2007 where his key responsibilities included;

  • Preparation of the monthly accounts reports.
  • Taking care of all the banking needs of the company
  • Preparation of cheques and presentation for signing to the Directors.
  • Petty cash management.
  • Preparation bank reconciliation statements.
  • Preparation of payment voucher, and
  • Payment of suppliers for the amount due to the company.

Previously, Ochen had worked with Buyanga Multservices Ltd as an Accountant

Ochen hold Makerere University’s Master in Business Administration, Accounting and Finance

He also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the same institution.

He is also a Certified Public Accountant from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda
