VisionFund Uganda has appointed Asiimire Isabel, as its new Head of Legal and Company Secretary, effective July 1st 2023.

VisionFund is a Christian Microfinance Institution owned by VisionFund International and World Vision International. The organisation provides financial solutions to rural and vulnerable communities in Uganda with a deliberate focus on women. VisionFund believes in creating brighter futures for children, empowering families to create incomes and jobs and unlocking the economic potential for communities to thrive. As of September 2021, the financial institution was serving  50,000 clients in Uganda, 95% of whom are rural-based and 60% women, across its 21 branches. The organisation’s services, directly impact over 200,000 children.

Isabel brings to VisionFund, over 6 years of industry experience in legal and regulatory, governance, banking, and finance practices. 

This, she has gained from working for players in the financial services space such as Cairo Bank and Afriland First Bank. She has also served as the secretary to the Legal Committee of, the Uganda Bankers’ Association among others. Outside the financial services industry, she has also practiced corporate and commercial law at Signum Advocates, Okecha Baranyanga & Co. Advocates and CR Amanya Advocates & Solicitors.

She describes herself as a “proficient and versatile” professional with “a solid foundation in law”.

She holds a Makerere University Honour’s Degree in law, a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice and Masters in Business Administration, from Makerere University. She is currently pursuing accreditation as a Chartered Secretary by the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, UK & Ireland and well as is undertaking training in becoming a Certified Public Accountant.

This hands-on experience, she says, has “allowed her to gain an in-depth understanding of the financial industry’s inner workings, equipping her with a keen ability to identify opportunities and challenges alike”.  She has also been instrumental in developing and implementing robust governance frameworks that ensure adherence to best practices and regulatory requirements. 

“My astute understanding of governance, risk and compliance matters have made me a trusted advisor to Executive Leadership, Board Members and Shareholders, contributing to organisations’ overall growth and sustainability,” she adds.
