Power utility firm, Umeme has said that processes have been finalised to ensure that Kiruddu Hospital gets a dedicated power line.
“Cable has been procured and delivered to stores, service contract awarded to Power Distribution Technologies Limited (PODITECH), materials being issued, site works commenced mid October 2022,” Peter Kaujju, Umeme Head of Communication & Marketing says.
The utility firm notes that Referral hospitals have critical facilities that need stable and quality electricity supply
“All Referral Hospitals except Mulago National Referral Hospital are all supplied from distribution feeders as any other domestic, commercial, or industrial customer. Referral Hospitals have critical facilities such as theaters, Intensive Care Units and Incubation Rooms which need stable and quality electricity supply,” Kaujju says, adding:
“Kiruddu Hospital is currently fed from Gaba-Munyonyo 11kV feeder and it has many spurs which move to different directions and any fault from any direction interrupts the entire feeder including the Hospital. The critical role of saving lives by this Hospital can be achieved with stable power supply which can be achieved with dedicated feeder from the substation to the hospital.”
Umeme notes that the power line should be completed by the end of December 2022.
“This is a very important Project to support the Health infrastructure at Kiruddu Referral Hospital and our commitment is to complete in within a month after commencement of the works,” the utility says.
