Apollo Nelson Makubuya, a Partner at MMAKS Advocates, one of Uganda’s largest and most influential law firms and Anne Juuko, the Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank, will on August 2nd, 2022, tie the knot at Namirembe Cathedral, CEO East Africa Magazine, can exclusively reveal.

Thereafter the couple will host friends, family, and associates at a largely private wedding reception at Makubuya’s farmhouse in Wakiso, on the outskirts of Kampala City.

Ahead of the wedding, Mr Makubuya will again head to Anne’s home this Saturday, 20th August 2022 for the giveaway ceremony, at which Anne will be given to his family. The giveaway is a traditional ceremony in which the bride’s family hands over the bride to the groom’s family. It usually precedes the official wedding ceremony.

On July 17th, 2022, Makubuya led a delegation of family and friends for what is known as ‘Kukyala’, another traditional ceremony in which the groom’s family, officially visits the bride’s family for the first time.

CEO East Africa Magazine in January this year first broke the story of their engagement.

The wedding will probably not be Uganda’s biggest wedding in the number of guests in attendance, seeing that the couple has from day one made their love story extremely private, but it will certainly be one of Uganda’s most noticeable, considering the power, influence and money of the who is who on the guest list.
