The three Uganda Waragi brands – Premium, Pineapple and Coconut – have each won Gold Awards in the 2022 Monde Selection International Quality Awards, bringing the overall number of quality awards won by the brand to twenty-two.

The Monde Selection Award – which began in 1961 – evaluates the quality of consumer food, spirits, beverages, diet and health and cosmetic products from all over the world through an independent 360° quality assessment.

A jury of more than 80 internationally renowned experts assembles annually to judge various products on several key parameters, such as taste, smell and visual appeal. Judges also look out for ingredients, innovation, and packaging among others.

Shalom Kaite UBL’s Quality Manager, said, “Uganda Waragi boasts an authentic Ugandan heritage and continues to prove that is a rich spirit with great taste and of exceptional quality. We are proud of the strides made towards constantly creating a product that Ugandans can be proud of as they come together to celebrate their authentic Ugandan spirit.”

Hillary Baguma, UBL’s Brand Manager Mainstream Spirits said the win was another proof of the brand’s consistency and quality.

“Since 1965, Uganda Waragi has earned its title as the Spirit of Uganda – a bold and vibrant gin that has since gained global recognition the world over as an authentic representation of the Ugandan people, bringing people together in celebration of all that makes us proud to be Ugandan,” Baguma remarked.

Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) also won the International High-Quality Trophy in 2020 for having achieved 3 consecutive years of high-level quality, grand gold and gold awards.

Uganda Waragi’s win is not an isolated win since several UBL brands have previously won the prestigious Monde Awards. For example, Bell Lager, UBL’s flagship brand, was the first beer ever in Uganda to win a Monde, paving the way for several other brands such as Uganda Waragi and Pilsner to bring home the trophies. To date, UBL brands have won over 43 Mondes- a mix of gold, silver and bronze.

Just this week, UBL was awarded a “Manufacturing Excellence” accolade by the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Trade, Industrial and Cooperatives during the commemoration of Africa Industrialisation day on 29th November at Kampala Serena Hotel.
