Capital One Group, in partnership with the Uganda Marketers Society (UMS) and Public Relations Association Of Uganda (PRAU), will issue an advisory report tomorrow Thursday 2nd July 2020 from 10am to 11am.

The advisory report, titled “Key Highlights Of The Republic Of Uganda Budget For The Financial Year 2020/21 and The Implications On Brands & The Marketing Communications Industry In Uganda”, will among others help marketers and communicators understand what the Government is planning for various sectors and how they can take advantage of this for the benefit of their brands.

Sarah Kagingo, PRAU President says:This year’s budget is unique in many aspects; released during a global pandemic that implores everyone to adapt to unprecedented and variable change. Covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown have created a paradigm shift in the way we do business across all sectors. Consumer trends are affected amid the dismal resources at our disposal.

“As communications specialists, the budget underscores a major imperative in our core; digitization. We need to seek attention and priority to the growing needs of digitization whilst creating possible solutions for the consumers out of the digital curve. Our communications, marketing and product placement must be reflective of Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) and the current trends. Let’s root for made in Uganda.

In a joint statement, the entities reason that the government’s budget is a key document that should allow marketing communications professionals to evaluate a government’s policy intentions, its policy priorities, and their implementation.

On her part, Sharon Kiggundu, President – UMS says:There is an increasing urgent need for all marketers in all sectors to listen and understand the implications of the national budget especially on their sector and other sectors with in their value chain. This enables them make business decisions on where to invest.

“Most times we are guided to follow the government expenditure as they are the biggest spenders; however also impact in form of taxes which might be levied on our products or services, which will have an ultimate impact on profitability of the organisation. This advisory report is meant to guide marketing and communications professionals on the key budget highlights which will have an impact on their organisations & opportunities underlying in the new financial year.”

The advisory report will unpack the role, relevancy and response of the marketing and communication function in 2020/2021 in line with COVID-19 by looking at specific industries, businesses and how this affects Ugandans.  This helps the marketers and communicators stay at the forefront in shaping how the journey their brands take during this challenging time.
