TBWA\Uganda, The Disruption Company® has won, 7 out of the 13 open-for-contest award categories in the just-ended inaugural Silverback Awards.

The Uganda Creative and Media Awards (Silverback Awards) are an initiative by the Uganda Advertising Association- the umbrella body of advertising and marketing agencies in Uganda. The awards gala was held at Kampala Serena Hotel on the 11th of November 2022, under the theme “The Future of Advertising and Marketing.”   

The seven awards won by TBWA\Uganda are: Agency of the Year, Brand of the Year, Campaign of the Year, Best TV Ad of the Year, Best Creative Director, Best Copywriter and Best Art Director.  

The Agency of the Year Award, according to the organisers, “celebrates the year’s game-changer that creates and delivers provocative, boundary-busting, envy-inspiring work that marks a new direction for its clients and the industry and moves it forward.”

The Brand of the year, which was won by Club Pilsener, a client of TBWA\Uganda for “embracing creativity in driving business performance”.

The Campaign of the Year Award was in recognition of the agency’s Nile Special Unmatched in Gold campaign. Winners in this category had to “demonstrate how an effective strategy, rooted in creativity, has met its chosen, business objectives, and how it generated positive customer outcomes and drove sustainable business impact over time.”

The Best TV Ad of the year accolade which went to the MTN Uganda Freedom Bundles Ad, for “creativity that leaves a lasting impression on the consumer, and effectively delivers the key message.”

TBWA’s Creative Director, Eric Mununuzi had a double win for the night. He scooped the Best Creative Director award for displaying “creative genius behind the most unique pieces of creativity delivering the key brand messages in the most ingenious way.” He also took home the Best Copywriter award, again for being “the most creative, influential, self-driven, and prominent copywriter”.

Francis Kiiza took home the Best Art Director Award for being the “most creative, influential, self-driven, and prominent Art Director in Uganda”.  

Commenting about the industry wins and peer recognition, Peter Magona, the TBWA\Uganda Managing Director, said: “TBWA\Uganda is delighted to have won these awards. This is all down to the collective talent and hard work of our team and client partners together. Every single team member and client contributed to this directly or indirectly, so these are our awards.”

The judges’ panel was composed of eminent and experienced advertising, marketing and communications executives, namely:

  • Creative Head WPP-Scangroup
  • Charity Winnie Kamusiime – Asiimwe, Marketing Manager, Ecobank Uganda
  • David Balikuddembe, a Chartered Marketer and President Uganda Marketers Society 
  • Susan Nsibirwa, a marketing guru and Managing Director, at Ayiva Consulting Solutions
  • Nick Hauser; A Creative Consultant and Creativity Coach
  • Dr. Innocent Nahabwe; CEO BlueCube Limited Inc; Media Entrepreneur and Vice Chairperson, National Association of Broadcasters (NAB)
