Kenyatta Commissions Kisumu Railway Station, expresses optimism on reduced cost of travelling

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday commissioned the Kisumu Railway Station, expressing optimism that the rail transport will boost Kisumu’s status as an economic hub in the western region.Kenyatta pointed out that the restoration of the rail transport in Kisumu will not only lower the cost of ferrying goods along the line but also stimulate the growth of industries that will create the much needed jobs for the youth.“Because of this rail, the cost of travelling from Mombasa to Kisumu will reduce. Also the cost of transporting goods from Mombasa to Kisumu will reduce and that is of benefit to the people,” said President Kenyatta who is on a two-day working visit in the lakeside city.The President emphasized the importance of infrastructure in accelerating development, boosting economic growth and improving the lives of Kenyans.Noting that the country could not have made significant progress in infrastructure development and other sectors of the economy without peace, President Kenyatta urged Kenyans to vote for peace-loving leaders in the coming general election.In this regard, the Head of State called on Kisumu residents to come out in large numbers and vote for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance led by presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua who stand for peace and national unity.“We want our country to continue being peaceful. Kenyatta opens new Trade and Development Bank tower

Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta has opened the new permanent premises of the Trade and Development Bank.The magnificent 20-floor tower, located in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, will serve as the bank’s Eastern Africa regional headquarters as well as the regional operations hub.Speaking during the occasion, Kenyatta said the expansion of the operational base of the Trade and Development Bank in Nairobi affirmed Kenya’s capability and credentials to host an expanding family of regional and international institutions.“Indeed, the sustained expansion of Kenya’s economy boosted by strong investor confidence and a resilient banking and financial services sector, validates our claim as a destination of choice for investment in Africa,” President Kenyatta said.The Kenyan Head of State also noted that the new building symbolized the exponential growth of the Trade and Development Bank since its inception some 40 years ago.As one of the shareholders and founding members of the bank, President Kenyatta said Kenya was proud that the bank now boasts of an asset base of US$8 billion.He congratulated the bank for being recognised as the sustainable bank of the year and also the best development finance institution of the year in Africa during the African Development Bank annual meetings two weeks ago.“This coming close on the heels of other awards by international financial rating agencies confirms that this African bank is growing not just in terms of its capital base but also in terms of the quality of its services,” President Kenyatta said.He thanked the Trade and Development Bank for its financial as well as policy and programmatic support to the public and private sector enterprises, particularly in mitigating the disruptive effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.“We, in Kenya, appreciate the bank’s support to Kenya Airways for the expansion of its fleet and the support to the Kenya Ports Authority for the port modernisation programme….

His death has been confirmed by President Uhuru Kenyatta a few moments ago, who has also ordered the Kenyan flag to be flown at half-mast from today until Kibaki is buried. The former president will also be accorded a state funeral.Kibaki was Kenya’s third president, ruling from 2003 to 2013.At the time of his death, he was 90 years.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured global investors that Kenya is open and safe for business.Speaking as he launched celebrations to mark the Kenya National Day at the Expo 2020 Dubai, Kenyatta said his administration has put in place a legal framework for investment that provides adequate investor protection in line with most international standards including safeguards for property rights.He added that Kenya enjoys political and economic stability, a fully liberalized economy, a large domestic consumer market, a youthful, skilled and productive labour force as well as a modern infrastructure network.“These attributes have made Kenya the location of choice for multinational companies and a leading destination for foreign direct investment in the region,” Kenyatta said as he kicked off activities to showcase Kenya’s rich cultural and economic diversity at the global exposition.A total of 192 countries are participating in the six-month world exposition in Dubai, with every country allocated a national day of honour.At the same time, the Kenyan president reiterated that his country is keen to build new trade relationships with the Gulf Cooperation Council states and other countries participating in the expo.“We seek to harness the opportunities offered by this expo to build new business partnerships, attract new investments and bring tourists to Kenya to enjoy our world-renowned attractions,” he said.Noting the goals Kenya’s Vision 2030 which include transforming Kenya into a newly industrializing middle-income country by the year 2030, the President said trade, investment and strong partnerships with the private sector are key in realising the vision.He expressed confidence that as the largest economy and business hub with sufficient capacities in trade facilitation and logistics to service over eleven hinterland countries in the Eastern and Central Africa region, Kenya is in a strong position to expand its trade and economic horizon for the benefit of its people.“It…
