Standard Bank Group has announced that it is playing in the Heineken acquisition of Distell and Namibia Breweries Limited.
“We are proud to announce a significant milestone in our relationship with Heineken. Last month Heineken announced plans to acquire Distell and Namibia Breweries in a multi-billion US$ transaction. Standard Bank issued a US$1.29 billion guarantee on behalf of Heineken to support their proposed acquisition of Distell,” Standargd Group says, Adding: “This is the largest guarantee Standard Bank has issued to date and one of the biggest ever in Africa.”

It produces 348 international, regional, local and speciality beers and ciders and employs approximately 85,000 people

Since the merger between the two largest brewing empires in the world, Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller, in October 2016, Heineken has been the second-largest brewer in the world.

Distell Group Limited, with headquarters in Stellenbosch, South Africa, is a producer and marketer of spirits, fine wines, ciders and ready-to-drinks. Some of its products sold on the Ugandan markets are Hunters Gold, Hunters Dry and Savanna Dry among others.
On the other hand, Namibia Breweries Limited is one of the leading beverage manufacturing companies in Namibia and indeed in Southern Africa. In 2003, leading drinks company Diageo and brewer Heineken became NBL’s strategic partners.
Namibia Breweries are the makers of Windhoek Lager, Windhoek Light, Hansa Pilsener and Tafel Lager, as well as some other speciality beers. It distributes Guinness and Kilkenny.
