Stanbic Bank Uganda has, today announced the appointment of Samuel F. Mwogeza as its Interim Chief Executive, and Barbara Dokoria as Interim Executive Director effective April 1, 2024, until substantive appointments for the positions are made.

In a public statement, the bank said that “the interim appointment of Mwogeza, who is currently the Executive Head of Personal and Private Banking (PPB) follows the end of Anne Juuko’s executive tour of duty at the end of this month and subsequent transition to another leadership role as Global Markets Regional Head for East Africa, effective April, 2024”.

Dokoria’s interim appointment to the Executive Director role, follows the resignation of Emma Mugisha as Executive Director and Head of Business & Commercial Banking. Ms. Dokoria has been the Executive Head of Compliance.

Emma Mugisha is joining Access Bank Plc.

“Announcing the appointments, Damoni Kitabire the Stanbic Bank Chairman, Board of Directors congratulated the incoming leaders and thanked Juuko, and Mugisha for their notable contribution to the sustained success of the organisation over the years. 

“On behalf of the Board, I thank Anne, and Emma for their leadership over the years and contribution to the sustained growth of Stanbic Bank Uganda; we wish them success in their next respective assignments,” Damoni Kitabire the Stanbic Bank Chairman, Board of Directors said in the statement.

Mwogeza Business Leader, Finance Expert and Executive Coach

Samuel Mwogeza is a qualified/certified accountant, executive coach and business leader with 20 years of working experience in mainly the financial services industry.

Most of the years have been spent at Stanbic, although he, between September 2022 and February 2023 briefly left the bank to take up a CFO role at VisionFund International in London.

Prior to joining Stanbic Bank in 2010, he worked as Head Commercial MI & Analytics at  Barclays Bank Uganda (now Absa) and as Business Services and Operations Head at Citibank, also in Uganda.

At Stanbic he has served in several roles such as Finance Manager- Corporate and Investment Banking, Head Consumer and High Networth and Executive Head Personal and Private Banking, Finance Controller and Chief Finance Officer. 

The Makerere University and Edinburgh Business School trained banker and finance professional in 2018 won the CFO of the Year Award, organised by ACCA Uganda and Deloitte in recognition of his role in leading the bank’s transformation review. In September 2019, he was recognised as the CPA of the Year at the 2019 Accountancy Service Awards (ASA) by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).

Samuel also played a leading role on the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA) technical subcommittee that revised and reshaped the industry’s tax policy reforms.

Dokoria- a seasoned risk professional

Barbara is a seasoned risk and compliance professional with over 20 years, all of them at Stanbic Bank.

She grew from a clerical banking officer to becoming a top manager in both the audit and compliance departments. Some of her key skills include regulatory compliance, anti-money laundering, fraud risk, data privacy compliance, and internal audit best practices with an in-depth understanding of all banking business processes and systems. She also possesses extensive experience in engaging with local regulators and key industry players in support of organisation strategy and industry objectives. 

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), in Accounting from Makerere University (2000-2003), and is a certified ACCA Member (2005-08).
