The Board of Directors, of Sanlam General Insurance, has elevated Ruth Namuli, to become the insurer’s Chief Executive for Uganda.

The appointment took effect in June 2022.

Ruth, who has spent 7 years with Sanlam, has previously been the company’s General Manager, since February 2016. 

She replaces Gary V. Corbit who has been appointed the Chief Officer of Sanlam Life Insurance Uganda- a sister company.

Sanlam General Insurance is part of Sanlam, a diversified financial services company headquartered in South Africa, with a strong presence in more than 30 countries on the African continent, India, Malaysia and various other developed markets.

Before Sanlam, Ruth previously served in various roles at ICEA Lion Insurance Company (U) Ltd and UAP -Old Mutual General Insurance Company before she joined Sanlam. 

“With over 16 years of experience in the insurance industry, she has exceptional technical expertise including risk management and strategic business management and growth capabilities to deliver both short-term and long-term shareholder value as well as creating preference for the Sanlam brand within the Non-banking financial services sector,” said a statement from the insurer.

Ruth is as well, a respected industry leader. She is the chairperson of the Uganda Insurers Association’s Technical Committee of the Agro Consortium as well as a member of the Technical Committee of the Oil and Gas Consortium. She is also the Hon. Deputy Secretary of the Uganda Insurers Associations. Ruth also sits on the Women in Insurance Coaching and Mentoring Subcommittee as well as a consultant with Insurance Training College (ITC).

Ruth, holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, from Makerere University, Kampala. She is also an Associate with the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and has completed the Executive Leadership Program at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, She is currently pursuing her Executive MBA at Strathmore University, Nairobi, Kenya. 

She is authentic and passionate about making a difference and driving solutions to business clientele.
