The management of Speke Resort Munyonyo and Conference Centre has clarified on the minor and isolated fire incident that gutted its staff entrance and exit gate, saying no one has been hurt and services at the hotel were not affected at all.

“Yes, we had a fire at the staff entrance and exit gate caused by a contractor working on building extension works. No one was injured in the minor incident. The minor fire was put under control and all the operations at the resort were not affected at all and we are working normally,” Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, the resort’s billionaire proprietor told this reporter on phone. 

A video had earlier surfaced online showing the grass-thatched gatehouse that is located in a far-flung corner of the 90-acre resort on fire.   

The 2-in-1 expansive facility on the shores of Lake Victoria includes the Speke Resort Munyonyo and Conference Centre as well as Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort. The 90-acre luxury facility boasts a combined 472 accommodation rooms, 20 conference rooms, 3 ballrooms and 10 outdoor venues. Altogether, Speke Resort Munyonyo and Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo have a combined hosting capacity of up to 5000 guests.v
