Construction of the much anticipated Karuma Dam will soon commence  when the final engagement is signed between the government of Uganda and China`s Exim bank. The 600 megawatts dam which was  contracted to Sinohydro, a Chinese Firm and financed by Exim Bank is expected to go a long way in solving Uganda’s power woes.

According to Sinohydro project manager Song Yi Jun, the company has so far spent several million dollars in the preliminary excavations which includes clearing the grounds, digging of a tunnel and paving the roads to the site.

Jun was addressing  journalists  at  the Karuma project site where a team of financiers from the Exim Bank of China were on an assessment tour as negotiations for funding draw to a conclusion.

“Much of the necessary arrangements for the construction of the dam have been made and we are optimistic that with the provision of the funds by Exim Bank, full scale activities will resume in the next few weeks,
