Thomas Tayebwa is the new Deputy Speaker of the 11th Ugandan Parliament. He garnered 379 votes, beating Opposition’s Moses Okot p’Bitek who got 82 votes.
He will deputise Anita Annet Among who had earlier been declared Speaking having scored 401 votes, beating her rival Asuman Basalirwa who scored only 66 votes.

In the 10th Parliament, she served as the Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE)

On the other hand, Thomas Tayebwa has been Government Chief Whip having replaced Ruth Nankabirwa.
The Ruhinda North County Member of Parliament was yesterday endorsed by his party NRM for the deputy position.
In the 10th Parliament, Tayebwa served as a member of the National Economy Committee and Natural Resources Committee.
