Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, has confirmed a story we broke yesterday that Doris Akol, the former Uganda Revenue Tax Authority Commissioner General has joined its Uganda office as a Tax Partner.

 “Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, is proud to announce that Doris Akol has joined as a Partner in the Kampala office. Doris joins the team led by Chairman, David Mpanga, and Managing Partner, Dennis Otatiina,” confirmed Dentons in a July 10th media statement.

“We are delighted to welcome Doris to lead our Tax Practice,” said David Mpanga, Managing Partner in Uganda, adding: “Her expertise and commercial experience will greatly enhance our ability to serve clients investing in or through Uganda as well as elevating our Africa Tax team offering.”

“Over the course of her career, Doris has held various positions in public office as well as in the private sector including Commissioner General and member of the Board of Directors of the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), the tax collection, administration and enforcement authority in Uganda. Doris possesses over two decades of experience in taxation policy and administration, corporate governance, public procurement processes, and public sector administration. In the private sector, Doris has extensive experience rendering tax and business advisory services in areas such as climate change and environmental policy and management,” said the media statement of Doris’s expertise.

“Exceptional talent is behind Dentons’ continued success in Uganda and Africa, and Doris, a leader and contributor to the legal and political landscapes in Uganda, significantly enhances our tax, public policy, procurement and regulatory practices,” said Africa Region CEO, Noor Kapdi.
