I&M Bank and partners commit to elevating the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series to new heights

The I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series continues to grow in stature as it cements its place as one of the most anticipated events on the Uganda Golf Union calendar.

What started as a casual social golf outing organised by friends from the Entebbe Club has now evolved into a premier golfing spectacle, thanks to the support of sponsors such as I&M Bank, Johnnie Walker, Victoria Motors, Kampala Serena Hotel, NBS Sport, RwandAir, Time Cop Security, Fenon Events and Goldman Luxury.

To celebrate and appreciate these sponsors, a special dinner was held on January 31 at the Kampala Serena Hotel. The event brought together key stakeholders who have played a crucial role in shaping the series. It served not only as a gesture of gratitude but also as a platform for strategic discussions on how to further elevate the Katogo Golf Series.

Speaking at the dinner, I&M Bank CEO Robin Bairstow, who hosted the event, highlighted the bank’s commitment to nurturing the sport and expanding its reach.

“The I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series has grown into a premier event, and we are committed to seeing it reach even greater heights. Moving forward, we are exploring ways to expand regional engagements and create more opportunities for meaningful connections both on and off the course. Our vision is to ensure that this becomes a platform for growth as well as having lasting impact in the golf community.”

One of the key discussions of the evening was the reflection on the successful I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series trip to Limuru Country Club in Kenya last November.

Dubbed the “Migingo Skirmishes,” this cross-border golfing experience saw Ugandan and Kenyan golfers compete, fostering deeper regional partnerships and enhancing the international appeal of the series. Sponsors, including representatives from I&M Bank, joined the players on this trip, demonstrating their investment in the growth of the sport.

The dinner was an open forum for discussions on how to refine and enhance the experience of the upcoming I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series, set to kick off in March 2025. With the event’s growing prestige, sponsors shared insights on improving tournament logistics, boosting visibility, and creating new opportunities for amateur and professional golfers alike.

UBL Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo, Victoria Motors GM David Otti, RwandAir Country Manager Vennah Mukumburwa, Time Cop’s CEO Richard Sserumpanise, Next Media GCEO Kin Kariisa, Acting General Manager Kampala Serena Hotel James Odenyo, the Katogo Vice Captain Andrew Kibaya, and Gold Man’s Frobisher Bwanika all engaged in discussions on how corporate partnerships can drive the tournament to new heights.

As the countdown to the next series begins, I&M Bank and its partners remain steadfast in their dedication to enhancing the Katogo Golf Series. From regional expansions to improved player experiences, the future looks bright for this beloved tournament. Golfers and fans can anticipate an even bigger, more inclusive, and impactful event in 2025.
