The tourism industry is one of the sectors that has been greatly affected by the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hotel owners are faced with the challenge of keeping their businesses afloat even when airports are still closed off and local travel still somewhat restricted as people are afraid of exposing themselves to the Coronavirus disease.
Allan Bright Kagoro, the proprietor of Allan’s Resort in Fort Portal district is one of the lucky winners who have walked away with UGX5,000,000 in the on-going MTN MoMoNyabo Together Promotion. Through the promotion, MTN Uganda is giving away cash prizes to lucky winners who enter the draw through either dialing *165# or use the MyMTN app to buy airtime or data bundles as well as paying for any other service through MTN Mobile Money.
Kagoro whose business has been struggling due to the pandemic plans to use the cash that he won to keep it afloat; “The hospitality industry was hit greatly because tourists are all home following the stay at home regulations.” Kagoro said.
Having used up all his savings during the lock down, the MTN MoMoNyabo Together promotion came in handy; “This is real luck!” an excited Kagoro went on to say.
While handing over the cheque to Kagoro, James Mulumbwa, the MTN territorial manager of Fort Portal, encouraged the people of Fort Portal to continue using MTN mobile money.
Kagoro said that the money he won will be able to resuscitate his business as he prepares for tourists to resume their visits. Fort portal has for long been known for its beautiful travel destinations especially with its crater lakes.
Kagoro, a family man decided to share the money he won with his partner, Ssali Madina. “I chose her because she will use this money for the welfare of our children,” he said.
Every week day, two MTN lucky winners stand a chance to win up to UGX5 million. Apart from the winners called in studio, 250 people win UGX50,000 directly every day.
