Elizabeth Mwerinde will head commercial banking operations in her new role at Eco Bank

Seasoned Banker and former Equity Bank Executive Director for Public and Social Investments,  Elizabeth Mwerinde Kasedde has been appointed to lead commercial banking operations at EcoBank. 

Ms. Mwerinde took to her LinkedIn account today to share the news of her executive appointment. 

Ecobank is a pan-African banking conglomerate which opened its doors to Uganda in 2009, with banking operations in 33 African countries. 

Ms Mwerinde is an experienced senior banker with a rich career spanning over 26 years, primarily within the banking sector, encompassing corporate, commercial and international finance. 

Mwerinde kicked off her career in 1998 as Manager of Trade Finance and Credit Analyst at Standard Chartered Bank. Between 2004 and 2007, she worked as Corporate Manager at Barclays Bank (later acquired by Absa Bank), and later joined Stanbic Bank  as Corporate Relationship Manager where she served for two years between 2008 and 2010.  

In 2010, Mwerinde returned to Standard Chartered as Head of Product and Business Development, SME Banking until 2017. She would later return to Stanbic Bank as Head of Public Sector, Corporate and Investment Banking. 

She joined Equity Bank in 2021 as Executive Director for Public Sector and Social Invesments with a focus on advancing social inclusion across multiple dimensions, including Refugees and vulnerable communities, Energy and Environment, Food and climate-smart Agriculture, Health, Social Protection, Enterprise development and Financial inclusion, Education and Leadership development.

Elizabeth Mwerinde’s career journey has exposed her to a diverse array of industry segments including mining and resources, retail and transportation. 

This diverse exposure has enabled her to cultivate expertise in pivotal areas such as business development and relationship management, equipping her to engage with customers at all levels in banking.

Her commitment to excellence and extensive experience across the banking industry make her an asset in driving financial success and fostering positive relations within the banking sector.

 Leveraging the wealth of knowledge, she has accumulated over the years, she actively promotes and facilitates green banking/Green financing, champions financial inclusivity and orchestrates community transformations, elevating them from the bottom of the economic hierarchy to self-sufficiently, thereby bestowing upon them a sense of dignity.
