Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), through its contractor Shimizu—Konoike JV, has embarked on more deep excavations to pave way for the 2nd part of the Nsambya Underpass now under construction. The Contractor has also started planting steel screw piles into the ground that will hold/support the Flyover structure.
The main project objective is to mitigate traffic congestion within the Greater Kampala and end the flooding challenges in the City, especially around the Queen’s way whenever there’s a heavy downpour.

For instance, the main drainage channel, crossing the road beneath the Clock Tower square is now under upgrading and improvement with larger drainage structures.
The project stretches from the Clock Tower Junction on Queen’s Way to the Katwe Pedestrian Over-head bridge on Entebbe Road as well as from the Shoprite Junction to the Clock Tower Junction. The Nsambya Road Underpass runs from the Nsambya Traffic Lights to the Nsambya Total Petrol. Station Mukwano Road— from Mukwano Roundabout to Clock Tower Junction will also be improved and widened.
