Crown Beverages Limited (CBL), in a bid to carve out a significant share of the bottled mineral water market, has not only invested in a high-tech USD76 million bottling plant but has launched into the market, Aquafina, an international water brand of PepsiCo. CBL, which already had another water brand- Nivana, says it will keep both brands- but position Aquafina for the higher premium end of the market.
Aquafina, enriched mineral water, is the first international water brand in Uganda. A brand of PepsiCo, Inc., Aquafina was first launched in the USA in 1994, but is now sold in Asia, UAE, and most recently Africa. Uganda is the third country to bottle the water after Nigeria and Egypt.
