As Uganda builds hope that one of the country’s students will emerge winner of the Continental Dstv Eutelsat Star Awards 2013, yet again for the third year running, another round of the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards 2014 competitions is in the offing and will be launched in May. Uganda has over the years been the proud winner of this competition from 2011 when the competition was introduced into the country.

The competition which is organized by MultiChoice Africa is aimed at inspiring and impacting on the people, through stimulating science, technology and inspire innovative thinking among secondary and high school students across the continent.

The awards are among others aimed at showcasing innovative ideas on the application of satellite technology in Africa, creating awareness of satellite technology and its applications among African students and stimulating interest in science and technology among young people in schools across Africa.

To ensure that Ugandan students take part in such a competition, MultiChoice Uganda introduced the Dstv Eutesat Star Awards in 2011 with hopes that Ugandan students will have the chance to explore new ideas and eventually bring /apply them back home.

In the competition prizes to be won include:1st position :A trip for the winner and parent/guardian to Eutelsat in Paris then followed by attending a rocket launch, 2nd position: A trip for winner and parent/guardian to Eutelsat in Paris and visiting a satellite construction facility, 3rd position: A trip for winner and parent/guardian to Multichoice and the South African National Space Agency at Hartbeesthoek, and 4th position: A trip for winner and parent/guardian to Multichoice and the South Africa African National Space Agency at Hartbeesthoek.

MultChoice Africa partnered with Eutelsat a renown French based satellite provider to boost creativity in the field of science and technology on the continent of Africa. Last year at a prize giving ceremony held in October at the Multichoice offices in Kampala, the top winners got Samsung laptops while the runners up were each given a Samsung mobile phone.

The schools attended by the four national winners/runners up also received a DStv installation, including a dish, TV, decoder and free access to the DStv Education Bouquet. On addition to that, the winners names and work were submitted to South Africa to participate in the continental competitions which would determine the overall continental winners. The continental winners will be announced at an event in Ghana on the  February, 5th  2014.
