In line with the bank’s ongoing transformation and realignment, dfcu Bank has tapped Doreen Byaruhanga as its new Chief Corporate and Institutional Banking Officer.

According to Charles Mudiwa, the bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, the bank has for the last year been undergoing restructuring and realignment to “reaffirm our institutional goal, clarify where we play and how we shall win, define our digital and technology priorities and show the value drivers that will enable us to achieve improved financial performance and social economic environmental impact”.

The key 8 sectors the bank has chosen to play in are agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure & energy, ICT, trade & business, public sector and health, as well as financial institutions and education. 

These sectors, depending on the size and needs of the clients, have been categorised into key segments, namely: corporate & institutional banking, commercial banking, enterprise banking and personal banking.

The corporate & institutional banking segment is now headed by Doreen Byaruhanga. 

She is a professional banker with a career spanning more than twenty years of experience, working across four countries on the African continent. Doreen has experience working both in business and credit and brings with her to dfcu, a broad, well-balanced perspective of the banking sector both locally and internationally.

She started her career at Barclays Bank Uganda in 2001 and quickly moved up the ranks to lead the Trade Finance team before moving to Corporate Credit. She then joined Stanbic Bank Uganda for 11 years as Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking.

In 2017, Doreen was appointed the Head of Vehicle and Asset Finance at Stanbic Bank which started her journey on the business side. She joined Equity Bank Uganda in 2022 as their Head, Corporate banking, a role she held before joining dfcu Bank in January 2024.

She holds a Master of Science Degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Westminster, London and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Makerere University, Kampala.
