Despite coming under pressure from Covid-19 itself, last week the group shut down four of its hotels, The Ruparelia has through its charity arm, The Ruparelia Foundation, donated two new Tata Xenon XLT S.CAB pickup trucks to assist the government of Uganda to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last night, President Museveni, while addressing the nation on the Covid-19 pandemic, made a public call to the Ugandan business community to support his government’s fight against the disease by providing transport means.

To date, there are 48 confirmed cases of COvid-19 in Uganda. No deaths have been reported.

The trucks donated by the Group are on top of another 5,500 care packages that the group donated to Kampala Central last week. The package considered of sugar, soap, and maize flour (posho) among other commodities.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, the Foundation’s Chairman said that the Group’s support was in response to the President’s call for all Ugandans to join hands.

“The President said this is war and traditionally when there is war, as a country you have to all stand behind your leader and fight as one,” he said.

Ruparelia Foundation: Enriching lives together

The Ruparelia Foundation was founded in 2012 by Dr.  & Mrs. Sudhir Ruparelia and runs its programmes under the theme: “Enriching Lives Together”.

Other trustees are Sheena Ruparelia, Meera Ruparelia, Naiya Ruparelia, and Rajiv Ruparelia. It funds startups, education, environment preservation, health, general welfare, religious charity, research, sports, wildlife and animal conservation.

For the past seven years, the Foundation has worked together with several stakeholders to champion positive change in different communities across the country to improve livelihoods in Uganda.

To date, more than 600 charitable causes have been funded by the charity.
