Telecommunications giants MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda have re-introduced a 50% discount on money transfer charges effective today 26th may 2020.
For instance, an MTN Mobile Money customer can now send any amount between UGX 500,001 to UGX 7 million at a discounted UGX750 instead of UGX1500.
A joint statement by the telecom companies says: “MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda wish to inform the public that effective 26th May 2020, all MTN mobile money and Airtel money person to person (P2P) transactions on the same network and Mobile Wallet to bank will be gradually re-introduced at a 50% discount to standard tariffs for a period of 30 days.
“All MoMo/Airtel Money pay transactions between customers and merchants will continue to attract zero transactions charges for the next 30 days.”
Zero charge
“…MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda on 19th March 2020, implemented a zero charge on all person to person (P2P) and Mobile Wallet to bank transactions for a period of 30 days. In recognition of the continued lockdown period, the zero charge was maintained until 25th May 2020,” the statement also says.
