CFAO Motors Uganda Limited (formerly Toyota Uganda), won a deal to supply 11 vehicles to the Bank of Uganda, beating MAC East Africa Ltd to the lucrative UGX3,254,008,582 deal.

CFAO Motors is the exclusive manufacturer-authorised distributor of brand-new Toyota vehicles and genuine parts in Uganda, as well as the exclusive offerer of Toyota manufacturer’s warranty.

Mac East Africa, on the other hand, offers a wide range of Isuzu vehicles, including pickups, SUVs, trucks, and buses.

According to the best-evaluated bidder notice, dated December 29, 2022, posted on the central bank’s website, Mac East Africa failed the technical evaluation stage as it quoted for a vehicle with a “fuel capacity of 80 litres as opposed to the requirement for a minimum of 135 litres”.

“The bidder named below has been evaluated as the best for the procurement requirement detailed below. It is the intention of the Procuring and Disposing Entity to initiate contract processing with the bidder named after expiry of five (5) working days from the date of display given below,” partly reads the notice, signed by one R.A Bakashabaruhanga, on behalf of the  Executive Director Administration.

According to bidding documents seen by this reporter, the open domestic bidding deal (BoU/SUPPLS/22-23/00019) issued in October 2022, Bank of Uganda looked to procure 11 right-hand drive and 7-seater station wagons, with automatic transmission manufactured not later than 2021 and with engines not exceeding 3,000cc in displacement. That would put the value of each vehicle at UGX295,818,962.

CFAO Motors is the leading dealer in the new vehicles market.
