The Board of Directors of British American Tobacco Uganda Limited have appointed Kirunda Magoola as the company’s new Managing Director with effect from August 1, 2020.
This follows the resignation of Mr. Mathu Kiunjuri who has resigned from his position as Managing Director to take on another re-deployment.
“Mr. Mathu Kiunjuri has resigned from his position as Managing Director and Executive Board Director of the Company effective 31st July 2020, following re-deployment to a new senior role within the British American Tobacco Group,” said BAT’s board in a media statement.
The outgoing MD, Kiunjuiri was appointed to the Board as Managing Director on 14th October 2017.
Prior to joining BAT Uganda, he held various senior management positions within the BAT Group: in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and South Africa.
“Under his stewardship, the Company registered significant growth evidenced in its strong performance, thereby delivering sustained value for its shareholders,” reads an excerpt from the statement.
According to BAT’s board, Kiunjuri leaves behind a firm foundation for a sustainable business in Uganda.
“The Board takes this opportunity to thank him for his contribution to the Company and wish him the very best in his new role,” writes Nicholas Ecimu, the Company Secretary at Sebalu & Lule Advocates on behalf of BAT’s Board of Directors in a recent statement dated 30th July 2020.
His successor, Kirunda Magoola most recently held the position of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Manager at BAT Uganda.
“The Board subsequently announces the appointment of Mr. Kirunda Magoola as Managing Director and Executive Board Director of the Company effective 1 August 2020,” reads the statement.
He is an experienced marketing and communications professional with over 15 years’ experience within the consumer goods and utilities industries.
“He is skilled in business planning and management, risk management as well as regulatory and policy management,” says the Board.
Magoola holds a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Makerere University Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Bhopal University, India.
