A frank conversation with Francis Kamulegeya on his life before, during and after PwC Uganda Francis Kamulegeya is a man of many firsts. Among the many firsts in his career, he, in 1999 was the first Ugandan to qualify as a UK Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), a very exclusive and prestigious qualification for Tax Professionals in the UK. In 2005, he was admitted as a PwC partner at PwC Kenya, again becoming the first Ugandan to be admitted as a Partner in a foreign country, within PwC. In 2014 he was elected by his fellow Partners in Africa to serve as a member of the PwC Africa Governance Board, again the first Ugandan to do so. In December 2021, after working for PwC for an unchained 27 years– 4 years in the UK, 5 years in Kenya and 18 years in Uganda, he opted for early retirement. This was six years before PwC’s official retirement age of 60. During this time, he served the firm as a Partner for 17 years, Managing Partner for PwC Uganda for 12 years, and a member of the PwC Africa Governance Board for 8 years. CEO East Africa’s Executive Editor, Muhereza Kyamutetera sat him down for a conversation on several matters including his rise to the top, lessons learned and unlearned and what he is up to in his, what he calls “redeployment” in his “second half-time” of life.
