Uganda Breweries Limited has appointed Catherine W. Ndugu as its new Marketing and Innovations Director. 

Catherine has been in an acting role in the same position, having taken over from Emmy Hashakimana who got reassigned to a Commercial Director role. She took on the substantive role effective 1st February 2024.

“We are thrilled to announce Catherine Ndungu as the newly appointed Marketing & Innovations Director, Uganda Breweries, effective 1st February 2024,” the company announced in a public statement.

“She has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, creativity, and discipline in operations management and controls during her tenure. Before this, Catherine has had extensive experience across brands within EABL before joining UBL as Head of Beer,” the Luzira-based brewer further said.

“She also has a solid background from renowned multinationals such as Heineken and GlaxoSmithKline, where she built sound grounding on both trade and brand marketing.  We look forward to her continued contributions to the success and growth of Uganda Breweries Limited. We are confident that she will continue to bring fresh perspectives and drive our marketing and innovation efforts to new heights,” the company added.

For the time she has been at Uganda Breweries, especially as Head of Beer, Catherine (2nd left) has executed some award-winning brand campaigns such as for Tusker Lite which swept several awards at the 2023 Silverback Awards.

Purposeful strides a track record of performance

On her LinkedIn page, Catherine describes herself as a “diligent, hardworking focused individual who loves life and appreciates others”.

“I am keen to detail in all I partake and focus on perfect execution for any task at hand. I believe in results and nothing is impossible, all a challenge requires is a different approach and a well-thought-out strategy,” she adds on her LinkedIn profile.

Catherine has been with the Diageo-owned East African Breweries for slightly more than 4 years. Between January 2020 and October 2020, she had a short stint as Senior Brand Manager in Kenya and was then promoted to become Marketing Manager for two years until October 2022. In November 2022, she joined Uganda Breweries as the Head of Beer and in September 2023, she became the Acting Marketing & Innovations Director until her substantive appointment.

Before Diageo, she worked at GSK Plc for 4 years in various roles in East Africa and West Africa and before GSK, she spent another 4 years with The Heineken Company as a Senior Trade Marketer & Activations Lead as well as Trade Manager.

She holds an  MBA in Strategic Management; from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) with a Marketing Major from the  Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
