After a year-long suspension of its activities in Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni has finally revised his decision and lifted the ban on Democratic Governance Facility (DGF), a civil society funding body.
Today, Wednesday 22nd June 2022, President Museveni hosted the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation.
“We discussed a number of bilateral issues. I also agreed to lift the ban on Democratic Governance Facility (DGF), to run till December 2022, with Government represented in the decision-making structures.”
He has put a condition for reopening DGF’s operations stating that government should be represented in the body’s decision making structures.
President Museveni said he will formally communicate the government’s position to the relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
The Head of state’s pledge follows an appeal by the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation, Hon Flemming Miller Mortensen.

This event took place today in Kampala at State Lodge, Nakasero.
The Danish Minister was in the company of his fellow countryman, the Danish Ambassador to Uganda.
The Danish Ambassador and Hon Mortensen disclosed that the project has only about half a year before it elapses.
Also, Mr Museveni met a delegation from Germany led by the Minister of State and Head of the State Chancellery, Mr Oliver Schenk.
“We discussed possible business opportunities. I am glad to see groups like this coming to Africa where there is a lot of business potential,” said President Museveni on his official twitter account.
He reiterated that Africa is a rich continent endowed a lot of natural resources with big business opportunities that need to be utilised.
Adding that, “We can, for instance make medicine from plants and this would be a good area of cooperation. We have medicines like Covidex, it is from our plants here and doing well.”
President Museveni has been out of the country just flew back from Nairobi, Kenya following a successful conclusion of the 3rd Heads of State Conclave on the peace and security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
