Kampala, Uganda: Letshego Holdings Ltd, under its subsidiary Letshego Uganda, has today handed over a consignment of water, sanitizers and food rations worth USD10,000 (UGX38,000,000U) to the Uganda Police Force in support of the force’s efforts in keeping the rule of law during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The consignment of supplies was handed over by the Letshego Uganda’s Ag. Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Giles Aijukwe to AIGP Asan Kasingye on behalf of IGP Martin Ochola at Uganda Police headquarters in Naguru.
“The role of the Uganda Police Force can never be understated. If anything, it is their diligence, round-the-clock supervision that has enabled adherence to the lockdown procedures, maintaining peace and sanity in the country. We are therefore cognizant of their work and we appreciate and encourage them to keep doing their best as we fight to eliminate the deadly Coronavirus,” said Mr. Aijukwe.
“Our contribution as Letshego Uganda is part of the Letshego Group overall commitment of investing more than Botswana Pula 3 million (UGX948 million) indirect financial support to regional governments’ relief fund and non-profit organisations across its footprint,” he said.
Mr. Aijukwe went on to state that concerted efforts by the private sector to support the government to stem the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic will go a long way in enabling the country to manage the deadly disease.
“As a company, we firmly believe in the safety of our staff and the citizenry within which we operate, so it is this obligation and duty that has enabled our participation,” he said adding: “The dramatic spread of COVID-19 has disrupted lives, livelihoods, communities, and businesses worldwide. However, our people are operating to support our customers during the lockdown, leveraging technology and secure digital infrastructures.”
He called on the population to remain calm, vigilant and to practice the preventive measures recommended by Ministry of Health, namely: washing hands with soap and water, using alcohol-based sanitizers and maintaining a social distance of at least 4 meters. Those with flu-like symptoms are advised to cover their noses and mouths with a mask.
