Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) is celebrating 20 years of regulating the country’s communication sector, a fete whose event comes 21 years since it agency’s establishment.

UCC was established by The Uganda Communications Act of 1997. The Act was enacted to provide for the restructuring of the communications industry in Uganda by establishing the Uganda Communications Commission, providing for its functions and administration. This Act was assented to on September 19, 1997, with its implementation commencing a week later.

In a brief chat, Fred Otunnu, the UCC director for corporate affairs, confirmed that the 20 years milestone they are celebrarting is for regulation, and not establishment of the body.
