Uganda’s petroleum geoscientist, Dozith Abeinomugisha, who passed on yesterday aged 59 has been described by industry experts as, “a towering figure in his field, and a true expert whose vast knowledge and dedication shaped Uganda’s oil and gas sector.”
At the time of his death, Abeinomugisha was the Director of Midstream at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda.
Kampala Associated Advocates partner, Elison Karuhanga eulogised Abeinomugisha’s passing as the loss of a true titan—an encyclopedia of Uganda’s geology.
“Dozith’s immense knowledge and contributions have left an indelible mark on the sector, and his legacy will be remembered for generations,” Karuhanga wrote.
“What a loss! A moving encyclopedia in Petroleum Geosciences. Dozith was such a close friend to me and very supportive and we spoke not so long ago and he was optimistic about the oil sector,” Davis Ampumuza, another X user wrote.
Abeinomugisha held a Master of Science in Petroleum Geoscience from the Royal Holloway College, University of London.
Previously, he served as Assistant Commissioner, responsible for refining in the Midstream Petroleum Department, Directorate of Petroleum, in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development(MEMD) before joining the PAU in 2017.
He was also part of Uganda’s technical team, which assessed the suitability and selection of the pipeline route for exporting Uganda’s crude oil during 2016 and the team that negotiated and concluded the agreements required by the licensed oil companies to take Final Investment Decisions for the country’s Oil and Gas(O&G) projects between 2019 – 2021.
He worked with Uganda’s Energy Ministry since 2000 and has extensive experience in geological mapping and management of petroleum exploration licences. He was the President of the Geological Society of Uganda (GSU) from 2005 to 2012 and authored several publications.
May His Soul Rest In Eternal Peace.
